Chef Jenni Schrenk
Jenni Schrenk grew up north of La Ronge, SK in a small cabin by a little lake. Her earliest memories are of blueberry picking and exploring on moss covered bedrock. Her first food venture at age 14 was a hamburger stand at the La Ronge airport called Flight Delight.
Jenni moved to Jasper at 16 to work as a live in nanny and to sell fruit at her uncle’s stand. The experience cemented her lifelong commitment to feeding people good, clean, locally sourced food.
In 2005 Jenni started New Ground Cafe’ in Birch Hills, SK, serving fair trade coffee and a daily changing menu of seasonal and local cuisine. Art, food and music made this 36 seat eatery a dining destination for out of town customers and a second home for residents.
Jenni sold the restaurant in 2012 and moved to Saskatoon to start Chef Jenni Cuisine, a catering venture that has taken her into homes, fields, wild rice camps, forest fires, castles and beyond.
In 2017, Jenni took her business vegetarian, other than certain cultural events.
She is based out of The Local Kitchen, where she also teaches cooking classes.
Season, her book of stories and recipes, was self published in December 2017.
