Clear Creek Organics

Gene his wife Pat have farmed organically in southeastern Saskatchewan since 1990 and became certified in 1997. They certified their livestock in 2000. Like most organic livestock producers the Kesslers had difficulty marketing their production so they joined like-minded producers as part of the Saskatchewan Organic Livestock (SOL) cooperative. In 2008, SOL along with Manitoba’s MOMA Trade formed a marketing arm Clear Creek Organics. Gene was appointed executive director and later CEO to assist in the movement of organic livestock production.

Gene will give his perspective on the benefits of livestock production and some of the experiences he gained as CEO of Clear Creek Organics.

Joel Mowchenko

The Bent Nail

Joel and his wife Cheryl have run the Bent Nail Café in Mossbank, SK for the past 3 years. He and his family live on their century old family farm where Joel manages Lake of the Rivers Ranch - a medium sized grass fed cattle operation that supplies the café with all its beef needs for sandwiches, soups, taco salads and their famous Bent Nail Burger. The ranch also sells beef direct to consumers; an avenue Joel hopes to expand in the future. Outside of farming and restauranteuring, Joel is active in the community coaching volleyball, leading music at church, serving on numerous boards and committees, and chasing his kids around the country side to their various activities.
